She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain

Scan-140503-0021

In a city where skyscrapers dominate shrubbery, it’s hard to imagine that an hour ride can get you into the heart of wilderness. Well not anymore, as I’ve made back-to-back missions from Manhattan to the mountains. From Cold Spring to Bear Mountain, Bull Hill to Doodletown, and Lauren to Dean, it’s an adventure anyway you look at it.

Kiawah Island

horshoe head

Continuing our “Tour America” campaign (see Tried and Died), the troupe gathered in South Carolina for a few days of R+R. When you’re part of “The Most Interesting Family In The World,”relaxing beachfront vacation seems tame compared to past forays. How would we fare? What would we do? And what the heck is a Kiawah?

Frenchie Friday | Home Buddy

Frenchie_Friday_FinalScan-140406-0023I’ve wasted (depending on your definition) countless rolls shooting the vermin. I’ll come out of the office, and he’ll be basking in the perfect ray of sun. Step out of the shower, and he’s sprawled on his blanket. How can I resist grabbing a camera and firing off some shots? The kid is king of the castle. The way I see it, someone has to record of his dominion.

Contact | Ian

contact2Ian“Almost passed up.” “Happen by chance.” I’ve started a few CONTACTs with these caveats, and this is no exception. I met Ian on my lunch break while he was waiting outside my building for the Bolt Bus. His hat drew me in, but he was going the wrong way. Then he stopped at the corner and turned back. I made my move. When I raised the camera to my face, I knew he’d done this kind of thing before. Turns out Ian is the man behind Boy Gone Blog, and thus no stranger to posing.

More CONTACT after the break. Continue reading

Kunu

KunuIn honor of the little one going back to school, and consequently leaving school three days later to come back to us, I present to you the Compendium of Kanooks, the Annals of Ansley, or more practically…the Facebook Prof-Pick Pool. All kidding aside, I’ve realized that I have done a bad job of posting the photos of my recent trips back to California, but a GREAT job of hoarding them all to myself. I tend to atone for my sharing sins starting with this post, a showcase of a sister who’s learned to cope with my incessant demands of “stand still” or “lean into the light.” Kunu, this one’s for you.

V700 | Sharp Dressed Man

Elliott_Side

I’ve fallen hard for medium format photography, and as I dive headfirst into this new photographic pursuit, I realized something. Here I am shooting expensive film, on a beautiful (thanks Sarah!) camera, paying for quality development, then scanning the negatives on whatever happened to be lying around. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful to even have access to a scanner capable of digitizing 120 (thanks Rob!), but as often happens in this passion of mine I found myself dreaming of something more.

Read on for some geeky scan comparisons… Continue reading
