I Half Too

Flatiron

I have a list, and it’s naughty, not nice. It’s a list that gets me in trouble, and one that often keeps me up at night. Ok, ok, so it’s a wish list, a camera wish list, a living document that ebbs and flows with obsessions of the moment. Last week, however, I crossed something off that list. I couldn’t be happier.

Kunu

KunuIn honor of the little one going back to school, and consequently leaving school three days later to come back to us, I present to you the Compendium of Kanooks, the Annals of Ansley, or more practically…the Facebook Prof-Pick Pool. All kidding aside, I’ve realized that I have done a bad job of posting the photos of my recent trips back to California, but a GREAT job of hoarding them all to myself. I tend to atone for my sharing sins starting with this post, a showcase of a sister who’s learned to cope with my incessant demands of “stand still” or “lean into the light.” Kunu, this one’s for you.

Chester

Chedda, Cheddy, Flubby, Wubby, Bubby, Wompy, Tompy. Womper, Tomper, Wompy-Tomp, Teedle-Tomp, Wompelio, Count Wompula. Cheechu, Chuchi, Cheedo, Cheddalungue, The Grand Chawhee. Doodles, Doodle Bug, Chub, Che-chub, Chu-Chu, The Big Cheese, Cheeseasaurus Rex.

He was a dog of many names, a reflection of the love he shared, but more importantly, of the goofiness that was Chester. And while it’s hard to say goodbye, it’s easy to remember the good times, and the little things that were so uniquely Chester.

Who Doesn’t Love Twins?

Who Doesn't Love Twins

I’ve always been intrigued with the TLR (Twin Lens Reflex…ahhh now the title doesn’t seem so creepy right?) and last weekend I set in motion the plan to acquire one.  Conventional knowledge would have you believe that the Yashica Mat 124G is the best place to start for a relatively inexpensive, yet relatively high-performing, entry to the TLR game. That same conventional knowledge, however, has caused second hand prices to skyrocket past reasonable levels, shackling the conventional buyer to a decades old machine for 2x the appropriate price. But as we all know, I am no conventional buyer, I am a man of discerning tastes and abilities. That being said, I set my sights on the Yashica Mat LM, an older (and all manual) model without a coupled light meter or the stylish black trim of its attractive cousin. Why would I do such a thing? Because it’s the lens that matters, and this puppy has the exact same version as the 124G. Thus, hoping to keep my incredibly good eBay streak alive, I placed a bid on an “as-is” LM and won the auction for the low low price of $50 even. Would the gamble pay off? Would I be left with the world’s most beautiful paper weight? Will you even read on to find out?

Twenty FORE

Twenty FORE

Ok, so the title is a bit misleading, but it was too good to pass up. We spent the special day shanking balls into the Hudson, channeling our inner Gilmore, squishing astro-turf between our toes, and LOVING every second of it. And though a certain someone’s golden birthday has come and gone, I’m still thinking about the AWESOME time we were spent together, and of all the great people who sent their love.

Sand, Sun, and Shark Eggs

Sand, Sun, and Shark Eggs

After much Graham-goading, Lauren finally helped me understand what a good idea it would be to get out of the city for a day. A quick call to Hertz and 2.5 of driving landed at the edge of New York State, finding a climate cooler than we had hoped, but beautiful nonetheless. Starting with our usual touring the Hamptons finest, oohing and ahhing at the once-described “f**koff houses,” we called an audible and decided to continue our journey on to Montauk.

Marriagebooth Monopolizers

title

I’m not sure how these have yet to make it on the blog, but it’s about damn time. Let’s just say that this version of Unterbergers know how to run a photo booth, even if it’s at the expense of other newlywed Unterbergers. So what if we hoarded the props and prints, and who cares if the attendants had to revoke our privileges, we made our presence known ‘CAUSE THIS AIN”T OUR FIRST RODEO.

Gotta Think Positive

It comes as no surprise to anyone that I love photography. I love the medium, I love the images, and I love the gear. But the more I learn, the more I need, and the more my mind begins to swirl. I find myself focusing too much on the technical things, worrying about shooting at this aperture or dreaming about that new lens. I know this about myself, I obsess about the things I enjoy, but sometimes I don’t realize how deep the rabbit hole goes until something pulls me out.

Auld Lang Syne

Should Old Acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon; The flames of Love extinguished, and fully past and gone. New Years Eve has come and gone, and with it the quintessential New Years Eve ballad. While I must admit, it does seem dubious that lyrics refer to the “flames” generated by endless sparklers sported by skimpy women transporting over sized bottles of Veuve Clicquot, it makes a good story right? Our first New Years in NYC, and our last New Years at LAVO, I think it’s safe to say we rang in 2013 in style (especially Amir, I mean look at that black watch)

Are You GLAM Enough?

title

If you haven’t already heard, I’m kind of a big deal. And being the bid deal that I am, I was cordially invited by Glamour magazine to come model for their upcoming February issue. OK, so maybe they were running a feature on Glamour employees and their boyfriends, and maybe they were more enamored with Oliver than I, but either way I ended up within the pages of a nationally circulated magazine. As it turned out, they only needed Oliver and I for about 10 minutes, while the rest of the time we kicked back and watched Lauren work it better than Hansel on a razor. If you have the chance, take a peek inside this month’s issue, just do yourself a favor and jump to page 62.
