Giving Thanks

12Last Thanksgiving, the birds descended on the NY nest for a Crosby cookout. This go-around, we took turkey time back to the Golden state. Splitting time between sets of cousins, pooches, parents, and grandparents, we soaked up the sun and our fair share of gravy. It was the perfect opportunity to test out my new piece of kit, the Contax 645, and I burned through six rolls without batting an eye. Looking back, I probably should have slowed down a bit as more than a few shots turned returned woefully out of focus. But user error aside, when this thing nails it…IT NAILS IT! It’s the keepers and that “look” that really get me going…Gobble Gobble!

Coney

titleSomewhere in my infinite Tumblr browsing I stumbled (or tumbld) across a beautiful set of long exposure images. They were black and white shots of carnival rides, with exposures just long enough to blur the lights (but not too long where everything goes psychedelic.) Those images stuck with me, and I decided to see what I could pull off at New York’s finest amusement park…Coney Island. With Winter looming and my window shrinking, I set out late one Sunday night to see what I could find.

Santa Cruzin

Santa CruzinA few weekends ago, we had the pleasure of returning to Seabright Ave, a trip not traveled enough in recent memory. It was amazing to spend a relaxing (if not short) weekend at Grandma’s, mostly spent lounging in the backyard, but sprinkled with necessary visits to such classics as the Boardwalk Bridge, Seabright Whale, and of course the Wharf. Being the weirdo that I am, I agonized about what gear to bring before making the trip, and at the last moment called an audible and threw my newly converted Polaroid 110a into the bag. I’m so happy I did, it was awesome to be able to shoot and share with the group, and I was consistently stunned with the beautiful output. The scans just don’t do them justice (though Ansley’s insightful titles might), and hopefully one of these puppies will be honored with a spot on Grandma’s fridge someday.
