Santa Barbara

Scan-140713-0003 - Version 2 (1)

For a special someone’s birthday, we planned a special little surprise. Though she probably saw it coming (the six hours of airplane mode kind of gave it away), she was blindsided by our Santa Barbara getaway. I on the other hand came prepared with the Pentax 67 ready to capture the weekend with a little color, a little black and white, and a whole heap of California light (see what I did there?)

Giving Thanks

12Last Thanksgiving, the birds descended on the NY nest for a Crosby cookout. This go-around, we took turkey time back to the Golden state. Splitting time between sets of cousins, pooches, parents, and grandparents, we soaked up the sun and our fair share of gravy. It was the perfect opportunity to test out my new piece of kit, the Contax 645, and I burned through six rolls without batting an eye. Looking back, I probably should have slowed down a bit as more than a few shots turned returned woefully out of focus. But user error aside, when this thing nails it…IT NAILS IT! It’s the keepers and that “look” that really get me going…Gobble Gobble!

Chester

Chedda, Cheddy, Flubby, Wubby, Bubby, Wompy, Tompy. Womper, Tomper, Wompy-Tomp, Teedle-Tomp, Wompelio, Count Wompula. Cheechu, Chuchi, Cheedo, Cheddalungue, The Grand Chawhee. Doodles, Doodle Bug, Chub, Che-chub, Chu-Chu, The Big Cheese, Cheeseasaurus Rex.

He was a dog of many names, a reflection of the love he shared, but more importantly, of the goofiness that was Chester. And while it’s hard to say goodbye, it’s easy to remember the good times, and the little things that were so uniquely Chester.

Frenchie Friday | Washed Up

Frenchie_Friday_FinalWashed UpAfter a surprise visit to the vet this week, we returned home with the knowledge that young Oliver had contracted a rather unpleasant “anaerobic flagellated protozoan parasite.” I’ll spare everyone the boring details, but as I’ve been saying all along, this dog is full of shit. In spite of the off-putting name it’s apparently a pretty easy fix, with part of the recovery demanding daily bathings. While this might be a problem for more cautious canines, Oliver has always LOVED the water, so this week’s Frenchie fix focuses on the little man’s soft spot for soaking.

Gotta Think Positive

It comes as no surprise to anyone that I love photography. I love the medium, I love the images, and I love the gear. But the more I learn, the more I need, and the more my mind begins to swirl. I find myself focusing too much on the technical things, worrying about shooting at this aperture or dreaming about that new lens. I know this about myself, I obsess about the things I enjoy, but sometimes I don’t realize how deep the rabbit hole goes until something pulls me out.
