Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo

Well this is awkward. It’s 80 degrees outside and I’m posting about a snowstorm that happened 4 months ago. To be fair I have just polished off/developed the black and white roll that held most of these the images, you know how it goes, “never put off till tomorrow what may be done the day after tomorrow just as well.”

Putting posting negligence aside, this California kid had never seen a real snowstorm, so while most of Manhattan was just annoyed, I was frothing at the mouth (with excitement, not that other thing…)

More Nemo after the break…

In the days leading up to the snowfall, you would catch whispered conversations on the street, murmurs full of terms like SUPERSTORM and NOR’EASTER. It all seemed foreign and abstract at the time, and though I had no idea what the hell a nor’easter was, I was stoked. But when the time came for the flakes to fall, it started with a whimper. Sure, a light dusting covered anything stupid enough to stay stationary, but I had grand visions of all-out arctic thunder…

It only really started to pick up steam (or snow?) around 12am, and at that point I had little desire to venture out into the cold. Instead, I woke the next morning to find everything still, the city covered in a giant blanket as if tucked-in by the heavenly father himself.

I wandered around those first few hours alone, getting out early enough to catch most places untouched, enjoying a rare time when the city seemed to take a moment to catch it’s breath.

I’m stoked on seeing this pictures! Especially like the windshield wiper one!

As you know, every time I go to NYC in the winter I pray for a SUPERSTORM or NOR’EASTER. Hell, I’d even happily settle for a mini blizzard. But no, the only blizzard I’ve ever experienced is the kind from Dairy Queen. Now you guys will tell tales of playing Catch Phrase and hiking up to Amir’s office to charge your cellphones for years to come…and of course, the stories will only get better with time!

    • I like the windshield wiper one too! Funny thing is, I first thought it was a dud because the old scanner made it look like I failed on the focus. Anyway, you’ll just have to come visit more often in order to increase your chances, hell maybe you’ll just have to check the forecasts and be the one person trying to get into NY during a storm while everyone else is stressing trying to get out!
