THE MAMA

Early Thursday morning, the mama walked through our door. Single and ready to mingle (a.k.a traveling solo), she geared up to show see NYC from a “native” perspective. Being the ever accommodating host that I am, I decided to drag her along to Adorama to snag some necessary camera gear. While up there, we also managed to grab lunch in the back of ABC, and re-discover Fishs Eddy. Utilizing the Brompton’s as our primary mode of transport, we jammed all across the city trying to secure a unique necklace, while snagging some quality sammies at Alidoro. Munching our lunch in a nearby park, we jumped back on the bikes and waited for Lauren’s return from work. Dinner at Locanda Verde was epic, made even better when I got my Don Draper on and ordered an Old Fashioned. The Mama and I continued onward, subwaying it up to 34th to climb the Empire State Building. Stalled by a sweet talking ticket taker, we somehow managed to sign up for their version of the deluxe package, which included a must-have ticket to a Kevin Baconized version of Star Tours. Also included in the package; a 30 minute detour, one confiscated tripod, and a positively pleasant case of motion sickness. But the 86th floor was worth all the crap, a serene landing lined with people quietly absorbing the city’s beauty. One Chevy Impala and 12 hours later, the crew was Hampton bound. Forecast be damned, the weather was perfect, giving this beach deprived kid his time in the sun. Dinner at “LUNCH” completed the Montauk Mission, a picturesque seafood joint serving up lobster rolls and fried puffers. Our last day began with a visit to the always enjoyable High Line, and ended with dinner at a new place Buddakan. Somehow managing to get into Please Don’t Tell’s phone line after 6 calls, we spent bid the city goodbye  sipping drinks and speakin’ easy…

More pictures after the break…
